Lorraine Sandknop Obituary

Lorraine Dorothy Weber Sandknop, 97, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2026.

She was born March 7, 1929, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late George and Pauline Fischer Weber.

Lorraine was a graduate of Rosati-Kain Academy in St. Louis. She dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker, creating a home filled with laughter, tradition and care. She shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Peter Sandknop, who preceded her in 2018.

She was a woman whose kindness knew no bounds, someone who truly never met a stranger. With a warm smile and a genuine interest in others, she had a way of making everyone feel seen, valued and welcome. Her thoughtfulness was unmatched, especially in the way she remembered the little things that meant so much - like never missing a birthday. Each call she made was more than a simple gesture; it was a reflection of her love, her attentiveness and the deep connections she nurtured with family and friends.

She found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially camping and playing cards, where laughter and togetherness always were at the center. She also enjoyed her happy hour, often with her drink of choice - a vodka tonic - savoring those relaxed moments with the people she loved. Her faith was a guiding light in her life and as a devoted Catholic, she lived with grace, compassion and a quiet strength that inspired those around her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine is preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia; and her grandson, Chad.

She is lovingly survived by her five children, Joe Sandknop, Jim Sandknop (Anita), Pam Riley (Tim), John Sandknop and Jeff Sandknop (Tami); along with 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, other family members and friends who will all continue her legacy.

A funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1000 N. Beckley Station Road in Louisville. Burial follows in St. Patrick Cemetery on Dry Branch Road at Fort Knox.

Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Lorraine's presence brought comfort, her words brought joy and her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hosparus, 6200 Dutchmans Ln, Louisville, KY 40205.
