Lorraine Miriam Seabrooks was born January 7th 1946 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to the late Louis and Evelyn Baylor. Lorraine was preceded in death by her brother William Jones and sister Elaine Baylor. Lorraine attended the Philadelphia Public Schools, graduating from Murrell Dobbins A. V. T.S. High School in 1963. During her high school years she met and married the love of her life Edgar Seabrooks, from this union were born 2 children Kevin and Erica.
Lorraine loved working with children and took her expertise teaching children over the years at Edison High School, Ada Lewis Middle School, Franklin Learning Center, Germantown High School and Simon Gratz High School while still taking classes at Drexel University to expand her wings in education. She retired from Thomas Edison High School in 2011.
Lorraine and Edgar along with their children became members of the then Harold O. Davis Memorial Baptist Church UCC in the early eighties under the tutelage of Bishop Kermit L. Newkirk Jr. It didn't take long through her faithfulness, dedication, and love of God that she was elevated as a Deaconess. Lorraine had many talents, she enjoyed cooking, baking, bowling, & sewing. Lorraine was very outspoken and rarely bit her tongue. She loved talking to her sister, and spending time with her family. Lorraine's laugh was contagious. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Missionary, assisted in the Easter Programs, Black History Programs, Christmas Programs, and served on the New Members Intake Initiative with her husband Deacon Edgar Seabrooks for many years.
After the retirement of Bishop Kermit L. Newkirk Jr., Lorraine continued to serve her church faithfully lining up under the new direction and elevation of Pastor William J. Scott III and the changing of the church name from Harold O. Davis Memorial Baptist UCC to House of Faith Baptist Church UCC. She remained faithful. Her talents extended, little did anyone know Lorraine was her own seamstress. She would design and make some of her own clothing. Lorraine continued to serve as much as she could until her health started to decline. Deaconess Lorraine Seabrooks will be truly missed. "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 1."
