Lorraine A. Shouldis, a beacon of love and friendship, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the age of 75 in Paterson, NJ. Born on December 29, 1949, in Hoboken, NJ, Lorraine was raised in Teaneck, where she completed her high school education, and eventually settled in Vernon before making Paterson her final home.
Lorraine's life was marked by her dedication to education and her unwavering commitment to the children she taught. After earning her Bachelor's degree from Paterson State College, now William Paterson University, she embarked on a fulfilling career as an educator, working as a preschool teacher early on and filling many positions within the Vernon Township school system before finally settling in to the perfect spot as a First-Grade teacher with the Clifton Board of Education at School #8. She was a member of the Clifton Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association, where she was a respected member.
The love of her life, Richard P. Shouldis, predeceased her, leaving a legacy of love that continued through their two sons, Sean R. Shouldis and his wife Lauren, and Ryan P. Shouldis and his wife Gloria. Lorraine's joy was multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren - Bridget, Emma, and Justin - who became the apples of her eye. She also leaves behind her devoted brother, George Tadiello, and his wife Karen; her beloved sisters- in-law Barbara Shouldis and Celia FitzPatrick, and Celia's husband John; as well as many nieces and nephews who will all miss her deeply.
Lorraine's zest for life was evident in her daily walks, as she was an avid walker who relished in the simple pleasure of getting her steps in every day. She also loved to travel, taking many international trips with her husband Richard before his passing, and continuing to travel with her sisters-in-law more recently. Her love for movement was only matched by her love for her family, especially her role as a doting grandmother. Other hobbies included tending to her vegetable garden and being an enthusiastic watcher of her favorite team, the New York Yankees.
Those who knew Lorraine will remember her as a loving, thoughtful, and friendly soul. She had the rare ability to light up a room with her presence and make everyone feel at home. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of many, and her memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
As we bid farewell to Lorraine A. Shouldis, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart generously shared. Her spirit will forever be cherished and her legacy of love and education will endure through the generations she has influenced. Lorraine's passing is not just a loss but a reminder to embrace the values she held dear: love, kindness, and the joy of learning.
