Lorretta was born on October 5, 1941, to Albert and Anna (Ritter) Herman. She grew up east of Harmony Hall on the "Sanders" place. When she was 8 years old, she moved to a farm 2 miles south of Harmony Hall that is now known as Davis Lake.
She attended Seedling Mile Elementary school and Walnut Jr. High School. During her sophomore year at Grand Island Senior High school, her family moved into Grand Island on West 5th Street, and she graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1959.
She worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1960-1968.
Lorretta married Jerry Niemoth on August 30, 1968, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. They raised two girls, Carla and Carrie, and farmed 10 miles northeast of the Grand Island Airport. Lorretta loved farm life and taking care of her chickens. She also enjoyed collecting Hen on the Nest glassware and angels. Her greatest joy was her grandsons.
Jerry passed away in 1995, and Lorretta stayed living on the farm until her daughter Carrie passed away in September of 2001, she then moved into Grand Island in the spring of 2002. February of 2023, she moved to Tiffany Square in Grand Island to live.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Carla (Dave) Nielson, of Archer, NE; grandsons, Carl Nielson (fiancé, Malilah Green) of Grand Island, NE, and Grant Nielson (Jocelyn Farhar) of Archer, NE; and her brother Don Herman.
Those welcoming Lorretta in heaven are her mother and father, her daughter, Carrie Jones, her husband, Jerry; sister, Joan Herman, and niece, Jennifer Herman.
Special thanks from the family are extended to the nurses and staff at both Tiffany Square and St. Francis, for all their wonderful care, compassion, and kindness.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
