Lothar "Lou" Kohout passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025. He was 77 years old. Lothar was born in Bremen, Germany, on July 11, 1948. He moved to the United States in 1961 and met the love of his life Nancy (Mikolaitis) in 1966 while working at Krucker's Picnic Grove and Catering.

Lou worked as a machine tool operator and retired in June of 2009 from Graphite Metalizing in Yonkers where he was the supervisor of the machine shop that made parts for airplanes.

Lou served his country from 1967 to 1970 in the United States Army as part of the 3rd Battalion 30th Field Artillery in Vietnam. In December of 1968, while in Vietnam, Specialist Four Lothar Kohout was awarded the Certificate of Achievement while serving in B Company, 54th Signal Battalion (Corps) as a mechanic in the motor pool. "Specialist Kohout's performance as a mechanic and as a soldier is outstanding and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army." - WB Peers, LT General USA Commander.

His decorations include: Army Commendation Medal; National Defense Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Meritorious Unit Citation and numerous other commendations.

After being honorably discharged from active duty, Lou joined the Army Reserve as a Specialist fifth class as part of Company D 101st Signal Battalion (Operations). In 1976, as a Staff Sergeant, he was transferred to the 812th Military Police Company in Orangeburg NY where he received the Army Commendation Medal for his service August 1980 to November 1982 for meritorious service.

Lou is survived by his loving wife of 57 years (Nancy), their son (Stephen), daughter-in-law (Nancy Rae), his sister, two brothers, three cherished grandchildren, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 12th, 2025, from 4pm-7pm at TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY.
