On October 29, 1928, a bouncing baby girl was born to the late Robert and Winnie Brown. She was lovingly
named Louella Josephine Brown, and throughout her life, she was affectionately known as "L..J."
Louella received her early education in Jefferson County. At a young age, she accepted Christ as her Savior
and, in 1939, united with Walden Grove A.M.E. Church, where her faith became the foundation of her life.
In 1942, Louella married the late Ernest Styles. Though they were not blessed with children of their own,
their love and nurturing spirit touched countless lives. Together, they raised two of Louella's nieces and
became "parents" to many in their community.
Known for her heart of service, Mrs. Styles worked as a nursemaid and caregiver to many, including her
beloved husband, Ernest. Wherever there was a need, she was always willing, ready, and happy to serve.
She was a devoted church member, serving faithfully in various roles until relocating to Burke County to
care for her husband during his illness. Even then, she continued her ministry by visiting different churches,
offering prayer, and lending her voice in the reading of the Word. She was also a proud and dedicated
member of the Eastern Star, remaining active until her health no longer allowed her to participate.
Although she was unable to attend church as often as before, whenever you entered her home, she could
always be found sitting quietly with her Bible and various spiritual and uplifting materials. She lived alone
with ongoing self-care, assisted by a caregiver three days a week. In May 2023, Louella fell ill and was
hospitalized for a short time before moving to a nursing home, where she lived until the Lord peacefully
called her to her eternal home on September 25, 2025.
She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love to her family: one sister, Willie Mae Morris
(Miami, FL); one brother, Clarence (Beaulah) Brown; daughters, Barbara A. Deantignac (Miami, FL) and
Tau-wanda P. Freeman (Louisville, GA); granddaughters, Katrina M. Deantignac (Miami, FL) and Winnie
P. Freeman (Louisville, GA); stepchildren, Richard (Preshell) Simpkins and Julia Williams; step grandchildren, Richard Simpkins, Jr., Rashard Simpkins, Raquel Simpkins, Levar Williams, and Ernestine
Pryor; a devoted bonus daughter, Amanda Rucker; godson, Lavinson Rucker; and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Her life was one of faith, service, and love-a true example of living for God and others. She will forever
remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
