It is with great sadness that the family of Louis Herbert Adams Sr (Houston) "Louie" announces his sudden passing at his home on June 3, 2025. "He is now sleeping in the Lord."
He was born on August 28, 1945 to the late Fannie Lee Adams and Julius Houston in Colt, Arkansas. He was third oldest of twelve.
Louie worked hard as a young boy alongside "Madear and Poppa" picking cotton to earn money for school clothes. He was taught the skills of fishing, and gardening, growing cucumbers, peppers tomatoes and more, often bragging about how fast he ran from the farmhouse to Colt and back, "That Was Far"!
After moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan he was united in marriage to Rosemary Herms in 1970. They had a beautiful son, Louis Adams Jr.
In 1978, Louie earned a Bachelor's of Science degree from Grand Valley State University. He worked at the Veterans hospital before landing a job as a corrections officer with Michigan Department of Corrections, where he retired from.
Louie was very passionate about helping those less fortunate. He often could be seen parked in the Degage, Heartside district of downtown Grand Rapids handing out cakes, sandwiches, and water.
He enjoyed those road trips back to Colt, Arkansas with his brother, Elsie Lee, to visit "Madear". Always making known with a big smile that he didn't have to pay for any food the whole trip. "June" (Elsie Lee) had him covered. He loved all of his family dearly.
Brother Adams, was a faithful, dedicated member of Apostolic Faith Church. He was baptized August 18, 1980 in the name of Jesus Christ and received the gift of the Holy Spirit under the leadership of the late Bishop Lawrence E. Brisbin. Brother Adams rode as bus monitor, served on the security team, Team A, and attended many church events. He loved his church, never hesitating to ask Pastor for prayer.
He was preceded in death by both parents Fannie Lee and Julius, grandmother Lucille Taylor, brothers Lindell and Danvie, and sisters Jerlean and Carolyn.
He is survived by his son "EG", siblings Beulah (Paul) Guydon, Elsie Lee (Verline) Ford, Louvenia Ford, Clarette (Charlie) Hayes, Randy Ford, Patricia Ford, and Gregory Ford, very close cousins Steve McClain and Larry McKinney, and a host of extended family and friends.
He is also survived by special friends Ken Whitepigeon, Josh Rosendall, Neil Ross, Helen Littlejohn, Wiliam "Bill" Brown, Jerry (mechanic).
Thank you for your love, support and prayers.
As we remember "Louie" let us celebrate the faithfulness of the Lord who satisfied him with long life.
A memorial service will take place at Apostolic Faith Church, 1935 44th SE Grand Rapids, MI on Monday July 28, 2025 at 12:00pm-1:00pm.

When I met Louie, he was like a wild free spirited horse like the Mustang he drove. We met while taking classes at GVSC. He was always a giving person throughout his life from getting people baptized to helping those in need for whatever reason. Yes he had an addictive personality in every sense of the word. when someone asked for prayers when someone was sick or needed prayer, he prayed to his God till the Church walls seemed to shake. Louie taught people by his actions, not by words. I see Louie in my children“s actions that remind me of him. Louie you will be truly missed by family and friends!
