Louis DeVito Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lehman, Reen, McNamara Funeral Home on Oct. 16, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Louis J. DeVito, Jr. who left us peacefully on October 14, 2025, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA. He was a remarkable soul whose kindness and compassion touched the lives of everyone he encountered.
Lou's selflessness was unmatched. He always put the needs of others before his own. Lou was known for his "heart of gold" and would take the shirt off of his back to help anyone. He had the ability to uplift those around him. Lou truly emphasized what it meant to care deeply for others. He loved keeping in touch with friends and family members. His love for his sister, niece and great-niece was truly unmeasurable. He cherished and adored them and genuinely prioritized their happiness and well-being. Lou was very blessed with lifelong childhood friends who continued to reminisce and laugh about the "good ol' days." He was a friend to many!
Lou was born on August 6,1952. He grew up in Cambridge, MA where he learned the values of generosity from a young age. He graduated from Cambridge High and Latin School before enlisting in the Army. He later resided in Watertown, and after 30 plus years of service, he retired from the Waltham Post Office. Lou thoroughly enjoyed the last two and a half years of his life at Bedford VA Hospital. He enjoyed this new home where he made several friends and enjoyed various activities. He loved the challenge of new puzzle, played Jeopardy, taught himself a few songs on the piano, and was so proud of the garden he grew this past summer consisting of tomatoes, cucumbers, and basil.
Louis is survived by his sister, Barbara A. DeVito of Waltham, niece, Marlene A. Vescera (Sullivan) and wife Kimberly A. Vescera, and his great-niece, Alexis A. Vescera who was simply the "apple of his eye" (all of Auburn, MA). Louis was predeceased by his parents, Tina and Louie DeVito, and brother, Joe DeVito.
Let us remember: No matter the many tough challenges with his health, Lou approached each and every day with a remarkable and positive spirit!
A graveside service will be held at Saint Patrick Cemetery in Watertown, MA on Saturday, October 25th at 12:00pm. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Louis's name to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave. Dallas, TX 75231

To our good friend Louie! We have known you for 30 years and always remember you is having a Caring Heart towards others. You had a great personality Lou and we always share memories of the good old days in the North End and all the feast. Even when we move to Florida we stayed in touch and talked every couple of weeks. But the best talk we ever had was when you said those words and came to Jesus as your lord and savior. Looking forward to the day Lou when we see you in heaven! Our condolences to your family you will be sorely missed. Janice Parisi and Paul Baldassari

Barbara and family,
Our condolences to you and your family. We met Lou at the VA in Bedford. He was friends with my husband, Phil, who also lives there. Every Sunday, Lou would would stop to chat with me and my daughters as we were leaving from a visit. Lou was such a nice guy. I always enjoyed our chats. He was always checking up with us on the most current Waltham news. Always asking if the Phantom Gourmet was coming in the summer to Moody St. He offered his home grown basil and tomatoes to us. Sorry we missed the service at St. Patrick's Cemetery. It does get easier.

Pat, Phil, Rachel and Lauren Silverstein.
