Louis E. Gilbert Sr.

Youngstown-- Louis E. Gilbert, Sr., 84, peacefully answered the call of God on February 17, 2026, following a long illness. He was born on December 16, 1941, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to the late Rose Mary Robinson Gilbert and Louis E. Gilbert.

Louis was raised in Fairmont, where he attended Fairmont High School. In 1960, he relocated to Youngstown, Ohio, where he built a life centered around family, faith, and hard work.

He was a dedicated worker throughout his life. He was employed at Pyatt Street Market and later at Rex Car Wash. He also served as the Manager of Plaza View Apartments, where he was known for his reliability and commitment.

Louis enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, playing pool, and dancing. His joyful spirit and love for spending time with family and friends will always be remembered.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 30 years, Sharon Meyers Gilbert; his children: Clarence Brookes; Diane Gilbert Bender (friend, Roger Pack); Macilla (Michael) Grace; Lewis E. (Twanda) Gilbert; Christopher (Christina) Gilbert; LaMar Gilbert; Adam Chatman; Alfie Chatman Walter; Linda (Michael) Withers; Louie (Angie) Fekley; Shawn Fekley; and Shane Fekley.

Louis leaves behind a legacy of love through his 40 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his siblings: Sarah May Forte, Pauline Bracey, Joyce Stewart, and Doloris Hickerson; and his brother, Herbert Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tanya Gilbert; his son, Juan Gilbert; three brothers, Eddie Gilbert, James Gilbert, and Carvela Gilbert; and three sisters, Ruby Gilbert, Genevieve Jenkins, and Phyllis Poole.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. followed by a 12 p.m. funeral service on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
