Louis David Hanie, Jr., 87, of Columbus, GA died peacefully while at Columbus Hospice House, Columbus, GA with his family by his side on Sunday, October 22, 2023.
Graveside Services with U. S. Air Force Honors will be held at 2:00 PM (EST) on Friday, October 27, 2023, in Lakeview Memory Gardens with his grandsons speaking. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Haine was born November 22, 1935 in Lowell, NC son of the late Louis D. Hanie, Sr. and Daise Lee Dover Hanie. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran who proudly served our Country. After his service in the Air Force, he joined the Civil Service where he retired as the Director of Photography and Movie Division. Mr. Hanie enjoyed SCUBA diving, golfing and fishing in his younger days. Later in his life he found great pleasure in traveling in the RV with his wife all around the states. Mr. Hanie also enjoyed cruises and traveling to Europe to see his wife's family. He loved red sports cars and was never long without owning one. Family was his favorite place and he ensured he spent quality time with them often. His absence will leave a void in our family, but he has helped to fill our hearts with fond memories.
Mr. Hanie was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Dasie Hanie; a sister, Jeanne Ivester and two sons-in-law, Bernard Glass and Terry Johns.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Manuela Velez Hanie; two daughters, Linda Glass and Teresa Johns; five grandsons, Josh Johns (Lara Beth), Brandon Johns (Calleen), Nicholas "Nick" Johns (Brandi), David Glass (Sierra) and Alex Glass; five precious great-grandchildren, Lilly, Aubrey, Maggie, Emmy and Benjamin; several other family members and friends.
