Louis Helligrath, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 16, 2025. He was 79 years old.
Born and raised in North College Hill, Lou was a proud member of the inaugural graduating class of LaSalle High School in 1964. He married his grade school sweetheart, Marilyn, and together they shared 57 wonderful years of marriage built on love, laughter, and deep companionship.
Lou was a devoted father to his sons Louie and Matt, and a supportive father-in-law to Julie and Hyeshin. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren Zach, Jessica, Anna, and Emily, and his great-granddaughter, Autumn, who brought him endless joy in his later years. Lou was a supportive brother to his sister, Carol Wallace. They shared an enduring bond that has had an enormous influence on his children. Lou was incredibly fond of his nieces and nephew and always loved their company.
Professionally, Lou was a Master Plumber who worked many years at Christ Hospital, known for his skill, reliability, and work ethic. But his true passion was in the connections he made and nurtured throughout his life.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Lou found happiness in friendly competition and camaraderie. Whether it was golf, racquetball, horseshoes, or tennis, he loved nothing more than playing alongside his sons and their friends. He also dedicated himself to youth sports in his community, coaching baseball and soccer, and leading the umpiring program for North College Hill, where he mentored countless young athletes.
For over two decades, Lou and Marilyn snowbirded to Marco Island, Florida, a place that became a second home. He found great joy in beach walks, afternoons by the pool, and time in the hot tub, always surrounded by friends old and new.
Lou will be remembered for his big heart, warm smile, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends. His life was full of love, service, and laughter, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
