Louis Hubert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beck Funeral Home - Rogers City on Feb. 27, 2026.
Louis "Corky" Hubert, 84, of Lewiston passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026 in Rogers City, Michigan.

Born on April 8, 1941, in Dearborn, Michigan, Corky lived a full and vibrant life that left an lasting impression on all who knew him.

Corky graduated from Atlanta High School before embarking on a life of service and hard work. In 1959, he joined the United States Air Force, beginning his journey to basic training by boarding a bus in Gaylord, Michigan. During his four years of service, he was stationed in Dover, Delaware, where he served as a crew chief on the C-133 Cargomaster. His role took him across the globe, and he carried immense pride in being a veteran. One of his greatest joys was visiting Air Force museums to reflect on his time in service and share stories of his experiences.

After completing his military service, Corky pursued a career as a Master Plumber. His dedication to his craft and strong work ethic were evident throughout his professional life.

Corky had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in tending to his garden and working with his old tractors. He cherished the time spent mowing the fields at his farm in Lewiston, Michigan. A passionate traveler, Corky drove across the United States to visit friends and explore new places. He especially enjoyed taking vacations via Amtrak trains-a unique way for him to see the country he loved so much.

He is survived by Benita Hubert of Belpre, Ohio; his children Lou (Jen) Hubert of Salem, West Virginia, and Annette (Scott) Chalmers of Lewiston, Michigan; and his beloved grandsons Michael Lee, Zachary Hubert, Carson Chalmers, Lane Chalmers, and his cherished granddaughter Peyton Chalmers. Corky also leaves behind his siblings Mary Girard, Gladys (Lyle) Klein, and Stan Hubert; as well as many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

Corky's circle extended beyond family to include cherished friends Jeff (Terri) Carroll, Jim (Gloria) McSwain, Alice (Phil) Cook, and countless others whose lives he touched with his kindness and humor. To meet Corky was to never forget him-he truly was one of a kind.

He was predeceased by his parents Clare and Ruth (Hermanson) Hubert; brother Don Hubert; and sister Agnes (Roger) Nickolay.

Corky's memory will live on through those who loved him. His legacy is one of hard work, adventure, laughter, and an unwavering appreciation for life's simple pleasures. May those who knew him find comfort in their memories of this remarkable man.

A special thanks to the staff at Medilodge of Rogers City and to Compassus Hospice. The care and love that they provided will never be forgotten. Another thank you to Tom Young for providing the awesome picture of Corky for his tribute.

Corky's wishes were to not have a funeral. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Air Force Museum Foundation in Dayton, Ohio in Louis A. Hubert's name as a "Tribute Gift". The address is The Air Force Museum Foundation, PO Box 33626, Wright-Patterson AFDB, OH 45433 or online at http://www.airforcemuseumfoundation.org. This museum was near and dear to Corky's heart as there is a C-133 displayed at the museum and he volunteered to give talks about it on Veterans Day.

So sorry to hear of uncle Corky´s passing. The last time we saw him and Aunt Benita, he took us for a ride in his model A Ford. He was very proud of that car and so happy to drive us around in it. That was such a long time ago...May he rest peacefully. Love Lynn (Demereck) and Keith Enterline

My condolences to the family of this wonderful individual. Growing up in Lewiston, we all knew "Corky" as a great guy that would help anyone that needed it. Although older than I, Corky was known by everyone. He was a great , nice guy.
