Louis Leger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Billings Funeral Home - Woodward on Feb. 3, 2026.
Louis Leewood Leger, age 91, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2026, surrounded by his family, friends, and devoted caregiver, Corina.
Louis was born on August 14, 1934, in Duson, Louisiana to Antoine Leger and Laurence Savoy Leger. After spending his early years in Duson, he moved to Sulphur, Louisiana, where he graduated from Sulphur High School. He later attended SOWELA Technical Trade School in Lake Charles, LA.
In September 1954, Louis married Shirley Tracy (Price) in Louisiana. They made their home in Sulphur where they raised four children during their 20 years of marriage.
Louis served his country in the Navy Reserves from 1954 to 1955. Professionally, he worked in maintenance and engineering management at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Plant and was a skilled draftsman. He took great pride in his work and maintained a lifelong appreciation for construction, craftsmanship, and the mechanics of how things were built.
Louis found his greatest joy in his family, friends, and his little dog, Robin. He was an avid follower of financial markets and current news events. In his earlier years, he enjoyed dancing, music, hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Throughout his life, he also had an appreciation for fine wines, whiskey, cigars, and pipe tobaccos.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Antoine and Laurence Leger, and his siblings, Lula Leger Johnson, Robert H. Leger, Betty Leger Hanchey, and James Ray Leger.
He is survived by his children: Steven E. Leger (Mickie Parks), Mary Leger Spaulding (Britt), Connie Leger Owens (Steve), and Linda Leger Cannizzaro (Carl). He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Gene Hanchey, and sister-in-law, Sandra Leger.
Louis leaves behind seven grandchildren: Lauren Spaulding, Ashlee Farrell, Matthew Owens, Britt Spaulding Jr. (Marshal), Carrisa Marsh, Grant Cannizzaro, and Anna-Lee Cannizzaro. He is also survived by four great-grandsons: Arlo Farrell, Curran Farrell, Walker Owens, and Reece Parks (bonus great grandson), with three more great-grandsons expected this year.
After over 76 years in Sulphur, Louisiana, Louis moved to Woodward, OK in 2020 to live with his son, Steve, who lovingly cared for him as he aged. Steve's siblings extend heartfelt thanks for their brother's dedication and care of their beloved Daddy.
Louis Leger lived a long, full life defined by family, a strong work ethic, curiosity, and independence. He will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
