Louis Maldonado, beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator and veteran, passed peacefully on May 18th, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Fresno on June 16, 1947 with a steadfast spirit and a generous heart, Louie dedicated his life to service - first to his country, then to generations of students, and the community of Fowler. He was a proud Vietnam veteran, ultimately suffering from long-term complications due to Agent Orange. Upon returning home, he earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts and an Administrative Credential from Fresno State, and passionately devoted 45 years to education. He received several educational awards from Fresno Unified School District, Hispanic educational organizations, and the Fowler Chamber of Commerce. Whether teaching, coaching, mentoring, volunteering or simply listening, Louie touched countless lives with his wisdom, patience and commitment to learning.
Louie was happiest spending time with his family, in the classroom, gardening with his German Shepherds alongside, exercising, eating Mexican food, listening to Motown music and dancing to "YMCA". His honesty, humor, compassion, stubbornness and integrity left an indelible impression on his wide circle of relatives, friends and students. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, the minds of his students and the spirit of his community service.
Above all, he was a loving father and husband, always patient and endlessly supportive. Louie was a devoted family man and married to his wife, Julie, for 36 years. They built a life together based on love, respect, and shared values. He was the proud father of three children (Alex, Jordan, Christian and their spouses Erica, Jaime, Briana), whose lives he shaped with quiet strength and unconditional love, and was the joyful grandfather of three grandchildren (Smith, Luca, Camila). The family will celebrate his life privately. Donations in his memory may be made to Hinds Hospice in Fresno.

I remember sitting in his class along with lots of other students in the morning before school steered. He always played the coolest music. Everytime I hear Lauren Hill or Kc and Jojo it takes me back to 8th grade, sitting with my friends in an area before school started and talking with them. His class was a safe space. Thank you Mr. Maldonado for being a safe space for my group of friends.
