On July 9, 1950, Louis Preston McFadden was born to Florine McFadden and E. P. Williams of Wichita Falls, Texas. He gained his wings on September 3, 2024.
Louis Preston spent his early years in Wichita Falls, Texas, living with his mother in the home of his maternal grandmother, Ella Mae McFadden. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. At an early age, he accepted Christ and was baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. L. L. Gordon.
Professionally, Preston was a childcare worker and cab driver. But his true joy came from the simple things in life: spending time with loved ones, enjoying jazz music, dancing, writing poetry, and volunteering. He was never married, but his love for children was evident in his many years of volunteer service. He dedicated himself to the community, sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt for the neighborhood children in the Kemp Addition and surrounding communities.
Preston's sister, the late Jessie Cleveland, once wrote, "Only a person with God's direction would give their time, monies, and all he had to give to his fellow man. You gave a legacy to your community that extended to the Eastside community for children to share with their children and grandchildren. You made a difference by helping change a child's life in the village. What a blessing to have you as a BIG BROTHER and friend in my life. Preston, love you as much as the day Florine brought you home.
He leaves to cherish his memories: sister, Mary M. Swoope; special cousin, Marvin R. Allen; special friends, Charles Roberts and John Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
