Louis C. "Mike" Schoon, 78, went to his heavenly home Friday, February 20, 2026 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston. Funeral service will be Wednesday, February 25 at 10:30 am at Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 24 from 5 to 7 pm at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Louis was born April 14, 1947 to Henry and Lena (Mehlhaff) Schoon in Parkston, SD. He grew up on the farm and attended country school near there through the 8th grade. He served his country in the Army National Guard from October 18, 1965 until being honorably discharged on October 17, 1975. He worked for the Hutchinson County Highway Department until retiring. He was united in marriage to Ann (Reimnitz) Thury on June 14, 1997. Louis was a member of Salem Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed watching RFD TV, raising chickens, cooking, working in the garden and taking as many "back roads" as possible on trips.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ann of Parkston; a daughter, Katina (Chad) Voje of Mitchell, SD; step-son-in-law, Kerry Murtha of Parkston; 8 grandchildren: Scott Voje of Mitchell; Robert Voje of Mitchell; Billy (Carly) Murtha of Sioux Falls, SD; Emily (Ryan) Spellerberg of Sioux Falls; Erin (Andy) Berg of Sioux Falls; Tom (Alex Saul) Murtha of Yankton, SD; Michelle (Von) Murtha of Parkston; and Karleen (Adam) Thomas of Milbank, SD; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister, Darleen Schoon of Parkston; a brother, Roger (Donna) Schoon of Whitewood, SD and his mother-in-law, Leona Reimnitz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, LeLund; step-daughter, Marcia Murtha; sister, Dorothy Ochsner; brother, Kenny Schoon; and father-in-law, Edward Reimnitz.
