Louis Shahan Wilcox Sr. obituary, Rome, GA

Louis Wilcox Obituary

After a brief and unexpected illness, Louis passed away peacefully at the age of 63 with his wife of 39 years by his side on October 24th, 2024.

He was raised by one of Rome, Georgia's busiest obstetricians, Dr. C.R. (Bub) Wilcox and his precious wife, Harriette. Louis graduated from The Darlington School in 1979 where his grandfather Dr. C. R. Wilcox, Sr. was headmaster. He was named for his maternal grandfather, Louis Shahan, who was president of National City Bank of Rome. After high school, Louis was offered a soccer scholarship to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. Instead, he chose to be a Bulldog and attend The University of Georgia graduating in 1983. He subsequently received his Trust School Degree in 1989 and his MBA from Georgia State University in 1990. During his time at UGA, he was a proud member of Chi Phi Fraternity serving as treasurer his senior year. That same year, he was introduced to his future wife by his best friend and her best friend who were dating at the time.

Louis developed a talent for navigating difficult situations with a calm presence, kindness and authority. He was a man of few words, yet his dry wit and encouragement to others came easily! Louis was most thankful for his family. He would consider his steadfast loving marriage to his best friend, Ann, their children and grandchildren, his greatest accomplishments with God's redeeming grace.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Ramsey Wilcox, and their children, Louis Shahan, Jr. and Rachael, Ramsey Rothwell, William Price and Cindy, John Wesley and Courtney, Wilcox. He was Big Blouie to his two grandchildren, Louis and Rachael's children, Dax William and Hadlee Grace Wilcox whom he adored. He is also survived by: Cathy Wilcox Reese, William R (Bill) and Tami Wilcox, John E (Buddy) and Rosa Ramsey, Lois Marie (Sissy) and Dale Whintlend, Carey E (Gene) Ramsey, 8 nieces and nephews and 10 grandnieces and grandnephews.

Services will be held at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in their temporary church building, Westside UMC, 269 Mohawk St. Mobile, AL 36606, at 3:30pm CT on November 9th, 2024. "Celebration of Life" will follow at the Merchant home, 3753 Spring Hill Ave. Mobile, AL 36608

Louis and I were close friends starting around kindergarten. I loved seeing him, Ann, and their kids when they were still in Atlanta. What a beautifully-written obituary. It perfectly lays out the kind and benevolent person, parent, and grandparent who Louis was.

As young men growing up Louis and I took mountain climbing ropes to Foushe Gap and climbed the rocks all day long on winter. I´m floored. So sorry. See you in heaven Louis!
