Louis J. Zaccardo, 93, of Amsterdam passed away Monday morning, October 6th, 2025 at his daughters home in Saratoga Springs, New York with his family at his side.
He was born on April 8, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ, a son of the late Joseph V. and Grace Caperino Zaccardo. He was a high school graduate and settled here in the Amsterdam area.
He was employed for many years at Montco Manufacturing and the former Noteworthy Co. in Amsterdam. He worked as a Cutting Room Supervisor. Lou had a passion for upholstery and for a time taught upholstery classes at FMCC in Johnstown.
He married Geraldine A. "Gerry" Zaccardo on June 26,1955, she passed away on January 7, 2003.
Lou was an active communicant of the former St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church and currently of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam. He was a eucharistic minister and usher and served as acolyte for funeral masses for many years. He and his wife Gerry would decorate the churches at holidays, and both assisted with the cleaning and linen changes at the church. Lou and Gerry also worked for many years on former annual St. Michael's festa and spaghetti dinner committee and that carried over to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Lou was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Amsterdam. Lou also served for a time in United States Naval Reserves.
He enjoyed Bowling in various leagues and the mixed nuts league. He also golfed and was an avid NY Jets and NY Yankees fan. Above all he was proud of his children, grandchildren and family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Lou is survived by his beloved children, Joseph (Sue) Zaccardo of Amsterdam, Grace (Harry) Bylebyl of Amsterdam, Regina (Kelli Martin) Zaccardo of Saratoga Springs, NY and Arthur Alukonis of Amsterdam who was like a son to him. Cherished grandchildren, Sarah (Robert) Kraemer of Johnstown, NY, Michele (Alex) Ibarra of Kingston, NY, Kristina (Jonathan Goyette) Zaccardo Graves of Broadalbin NY, and Anette (Jeremy) Hermann of Hudson, MA, Five great-grandchildren, Madelyn Kraemer, Michael Kraemer, Jeremiah Hermann, Cooper Ibarra and Edison Hermann. His dear sister, Marion Lange of Florida. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St.,
Amsterdam, NY with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery,
Amsterdam, NY.
A calling period will be held on Friday prior to the funeral Mass from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church the church.
