Louise Addington Obituary
Louise Addington, 87, of Winchester, was called to her heavenly reward on November 7, 2025. Born April 13, 1938, in Berne, Indiana, Louise was the daughter of Frank and Alma Simon. Her life reflected her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a humble and thoughtful person, considering the needs of others before herself. Those who knew her best often witnessed her sense of humor.
Children were a passion of Louise's life. At a very young age, she cared for her younger siblings and volunteered in the nursery at her church in Berne. In her teen years she worked for several mothers with newborn infants in their homes. After marrying and moving to Winchester in the early 1960's, Louise began caring for children in her home. These numerous young ones were like family and were the source of great joy and many wonderful memories for her and her family.
Louise enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and for those experiencing a difficulty in life. Her earliest baking achievement was winning a blue ribbon at the Adams County 4H Fair for her Angel Food Cake and advancing to state competition. She became known as the "cookie lady" by many in Winchester, baking hundreds of decorated cookies for church, school, and family gatherings during the holidays. Her family and extended family always eagerly anticipated her famous graham cracker pudding.
Louise was a lifelong member of The Church of the Nazarene, attending both in Berne and later in Winchester. She served as nursery worker or director for about 43 years. Later in life, she, along with daughter, Rosie, worked tirelessly for a mission project called Operation Warm Baby. This project, sponsored by the International Church of the Nazarene, provides items to mothers of newborn infants, purchased, packaged, and shipped to Kudjip Hospital in Papua, New Guinea. Donations of time and money from the church and community have allowed Louise and Rosie to send 1,981 baby packs to date.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Alma (Stewart) Simon, her husband, Henry Addington, Jr., and her brother, Floyd Simon.
Louise is survived by a sister, Jean Crandall, a brother, Roger Simon, both of Berne, and a sister, Norma Whittenbarger, of Decatur. Also by son, Norman (Mary) Addington, Selma, daughter Tamara (Randall) Barajas, Joliet, IL, daughter, Rhoda Addington, and daughter, Rosalyn Addington, both of Winchester. Her grandchildren, Paul Addington, Muncie, Bethany Louise (Scott) Darius, Gainesville, FL, Mary Grace (Zane) Sims, Cookeville, TN, Michelle Barajas, David Barajas, and Brianna Barajas, all of Joliet, IL enjoyed special times with Grandma. Louise was blessed with one great-granddaughter, Glory Darius. Louise was also a special aunt to several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Louise's life will take place on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 am at The First Church of the Nazarene in Winchester. Friends and family may gather at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, and one hour before the service on Saturday.
