Louise Ham, 94, of Rocky Face, GA passed away at home on Sunday, April 14, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. (E. Helen) Russell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leon M. Ham III and her two sisters, Mrs. Emory Larson of Lutherville, MD and Mrs. John Folk of Cape Cod, MA.
Louise was born in Reading, PA on November 29, 1929. She graduated from Sullins College in Bristol, VA. She then moved to Wilmington, DE where she worked for DuPont Company in rayon pioneering. It was there that she met her future husband, Leon Ham, who was from Greensboro, NC. After marrying, they moved to Charlotte, NC, Boaz, AL, and then Dalton, GA – her favorite town.
Louise was a volunteer at the Salvation Army Food Bank for years and a Red Cross volunteer at the hospital for 18 years. She was also very active in her church, ChristChurch Presbyterian, where she was the instigator in starting a men's Sunday School class. It later became known as the Louise Ham Men's Sunday School Class. Until recently, Louise provided breakfast "goodies" for 35 years.
Louise is survived by two sons and her daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leon M. (Skipper and Leigh) Ham IV of Dalton and John Ham of Atlanta; two grandsons, Charlie Ham and Luke Ham, both of Atlanta; and very special nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Louise Ham will be held at 3 PM on Thursday at ChristChurch Presbyterian with Pastor Eric Geil officiating. The family will receive friends at ChristChurch Presbyterian before the service from 2 until 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to one's favorite charity.
