Devoted to her family and her faith

WATERBURY—It is with profound sadness that the family of Louise M. Hoban, age 88, of Waterbury, shares the news of the unexpected passing of their beloved mother, sister, and grandmother on Sunday, December 22nd, 2024, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by the love of her family after a brief illness. She was the widow of James P. Hoban Jr.

Louise was born on March 28th 1936, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Antoine A and Jeanne (Theriault) Jalbert. Educated in local schools, Louise spent her career as a secretary with both the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and later with Catholic Family Services, until she retired in 1999. Her commitment to her faith was evident through her active participation in the Legion of Mary at Saints Peter and Paul Church, where she was also a cherished member of the Madonna Guild. Louise offered her time generously, visiting nursing homes and hospitals to pray for the sick, and taught as a CCD teacher at Saints Peter and Paul Church, embodying the spirit of compassion and care to both the elderly and youth of the community. In recognition of her dedicated service to her parish and church, Louise received the prestigious St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation in 2010. Louise also served on the board of directors of the Mattatuck Senior Center for several years, where her kindness and enthusiasm were deeply felt. Beyond her community service, Louise had a passion for gardening, sewing, quilting, and all forms of needlework. An avid walker, she cherished the beauty of nature and the joy of movement. Our family thanks you, Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for the thousands of hugs you shared with us, and for the unending love you instilled in all of us.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children, Michael and Patrick Hoban, both of Wolcott, Terrance Hoban of Waterbury, Doreen Ward of Waterbury, Sharon Moody of Colorado, and Dianne T Wingard and her husband, Russell of Falls Village CT. She also leaves her siblings; Arthur, George, Francis, Vincent, and Antoinette Jalbert, as well as 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, John Ward.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hoban will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish, Saint Leo the Great Church, 14 Bentwood Rd, Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories, laughter, and love in honor of the extraordinary woman Louise was, on Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until leaving for church 10:30am at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury.
