Lowell Orson Bird of Hudson (formerly of Cuyahoga Falls, Akron, and southeast Michigan) died peacefully on May 6, 2024, surrounded by family members. He was in his 92nd year of life. Lowell is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joanna Bird; children David (Mary) Bird, Karin (Mark) Tapee, and Michael (Lori) Bird; grandchildren Eric (Kate) Bird, Jessica (Tony) Livigni, John (Sue) Tapee, Michael Tapee, Ethan Bird, and Caroline Bird; sister Bernice Sayers; brother-in-law John (Connie) Kindley; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Lowell grew up in Detroit, Michigan and received a B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Michigan, where he met Joanna.
Lowell served in the army at Ft. Eustis in Virginia, and worked in Detroit and Chicago until moving to Akron in 1966 to work at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. After retiring in 1991, Lowell spent time with his grandchildren and traveling with Joanna and family. Lowell played tennis into his 70s, and continued to keep in touch with the former Cliffside Dr neighbors in Akron. He enjoyed antique cars, air shows, and aerospace museums and had fond memories of growing up in Detroit and adventures in northern Michigan.
The family appreciated the care provided by the staff at Hudson EMS, Laurel Lake Crown Center and Northeast Ohio Hospice during his last few months of life. A celebration of Lowell's life will be at Laurel Lake Retirement Community (200 Laurel Lake Dr) in Hudson, Ohio on Saturday, June 1st at 1:00pm, followed by a reception.

My sympathies to the entire Bird family. I did not know Mr. Bird, I graduated with his son, David, from Firestone. It seems he had a very full and loving life. The mixed blessing of that is many happy memories and many "unrepeatable" experiences too. Smile when you can, cry when you must and know that you remain in the concerns of others.
