Lowell Vaupel, 87, of Carmi went to be with his heavenly father on Friday, May 5, 2023. He was born in Burnt Prairie, IL on January 6, 1936 the son of Martin and Coralee (Funkhouser) Vaupel. Lowell married Mary Carolyn Fagan on June 1, 1956 and she preceded him in death on February 14, 2021.
After graduating from Carmi Township High School, Lowell worked various jobs, before beginning a career as a salesman and delivery driver with Dairy Brand Milk located in Harrisburg, IL He later went to work for Tom Muse Trucking where he retired.
Lowell was also quite the carpenter, as he along with his wife and children, built their own home. He loved to do woodworking and building furniture, along with high chairs for his grandchildren. Lowell also enjoyed raising cattle, helping with Carmi Little League and hunting. He had one of the earliest deer camps in White County. Lowell attended Kingdom Church and had been a member of the Carmi Elks. He enjoyed St. Louis Cardinals baseball, playing cards and gardening. His greatest joy was being with his family and grandchildren, which he always made time for and attended as many of their events as he could.
Lowell is survived by his five children Dwain (Debbie) Vaupel of Marion IL; Ken (Laurie) Vaupel of Sarasota, FL; David (Mindy) Vaupel of Swansea IL; Dianna (Mike) Anderson of Carmi IL and Becky (Don) Puckett of Carmi IL. Twelve grandchildren Courtney Ackerman and Ryan Vaupel; Ty Vaupel and Paige Busch; Rylie Wheeler and Dillon Vaupel; Tarah Evans, Kaci Konrath, and Brynn Anderson and Ashley Gibbs, Lindsay Ufert and Grayson Puckett and 23 great grandchildren, including two on the way, one being a girl due in June 2023; two sisters, Madeline Lamp and Anna Dennis both of Carmi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carolyn and five siblings, Lloyd Vaupel, Floyd Vaupel, Luther Vaupel, Eloise Vaupel and Mary Helen Young and one great grandson, Clayton Konrath.
Funeral services for Lowell Vaupel, 87, of Carmi will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery near Carmi. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until service time at noon at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lowell's memory to Supportive Living of Wabash Activity Department and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. The family would like to thank the staff at Supportive Living for all the care and support they have given Lowell and Carolyn over the years.
