In Loving Memory of Mr. Lu Vinh Luu
July 3, 1934 - October 11, 2025 With heavy hearts, the family of Mr. Lu Vinh Luu announces his peaceful passing on October 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in Katy, Texas, surrounded by his children and grandchildren holding his hand. He was 92 years old. Born on July 3, 1934, in Vinh Long, Vietnam, Mr. Luu attended the DaLat National Military School, where he graduated with honor. His discipline, intellect, and leadership quickly led him to serve as an instructor at the academy after graduation. He was later sent to Malaysia for advanced training with the British Royal Military and the Gurkhas, specializing in jungle warfare tactics. Upon returning home, he became a Special Warfare Instructor, training new generations of officers with excellence and dedication. During the Saigon coup of 1963, Mr. Luu was commended to serve in the capital as Executive Liaison Secretary for the Presidential Palace and was later appointed Press Director for the Republic of Vietnam. Continuing his service to his nation, he was elected to the City Council in 1970, later serving as Chairman of the Council. From 1972 to 1975, he was President of Thanh My Ky Nghe Company, the largest producer of electrical wires and cables in South Vietnam (VNCH). In the early 1970s, Mr. Luu also assisted the Catholic Diocese of Saigon in laying the groundwork to establish the Order of the La Salle Sisters, helping secure permission for foreign nuns to come to Vietnam for training - a lasting contribution to faith and education. Beyond his professional and public life, Mr. Luu had a lifelong passion for fencing. He was not only a devoted practitioner but also an instructor, teaching Madame Nhu's daughter (Ngô ình L Th y), and sister, Madame Châu, reflecting his dedication to mentorship, discipline, and the art he loved. Following the Fall of Saigon in 1975, Mr. Luu was forced to leave his homeland and begin a new life in the United States. With humility and perseverance, from scratch, he started over as a night manager at Burger Chef, then as a custodian for a wire and cable company in Carmel, Indiana. His work ethic and determination soon earned him advancement to Quality Control Manager, then Vice President. Recognized for his leadership, he was sent overseas to establish Pacusma Ltd., a joint manufacturing venture with Woods Wire Ltd. From 1978 to 2006, he served as Chairman and CEO of Pacusma Ltd. in Hong Kong, overseeing branches in Taiwan, China, and Japan. From 1984 to 1986, he served as Indiana State Trade Ambassador to Hong Kong, representing the State of Indiana and fostering international trade relationships with Asia. Between 1986 and 1989, Mr. Luu attended and graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Business's Owner/President Management (OPM) Program, earning an Honorary Master's degree for Presidents and Owners - a crowning achievement that reflected his lifelong pursuit of learning and leadership excellence. In 2004, following his own cataract surgery, Mr. Luu was moved by the realization that many people in poor communities lacked access to such life-changing care. Out of compassion and gratitude, he sponsored and organized a team of ophthalmologists to travel to his birth village in Vietnam, where they provided free cataract surgeries for hundreds of local residents, restoring sight and hope to many. After retiring to the United States in 2006, Mr. Luu continued to serve his community as the Senior Advisor for the Vietnamese Former Officers of the Vietnamese Academy Association Worldwide, guiding fellow officers with wisdom, compassion, and unity until his passing. Mr. Luu was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Lily Ngoc Thanh, his grade-school sweetheart and lifelong partner, who passed away fifteen years ago. Together they raised four children and were blessed with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his values of love, honor, and perseverance. He will be remembered for his courage, intellect, humility, and generosity - a man of vision who lived with integrity, faith, and devotion to his family and country. Mr. Luu is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His family takes comfort knowing he is reunited with his beloved Lily and that his strength, love, and legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. The family welcomes friends and loved ones to join in honoring and celebrating a remarkable life of service, leadership, and love. Though he is gone from our sight, his honor, faith, and gentle spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
