Lua Ellen (Hostler) Van Meter was born June 30, 1931, in Roxana, Oklahoma, to loving parents E.H. and Susan Hostler. Lua Ellen Van Meter departed this life on June 3, 2025, at the remarkable age of 93. Lua was a woman defined by her unwavering strength, enduring kindness, and unconditional love. Her life was a testament to faith, hard work, and service to others. In her early years, Lua worked for the Pepsi Bottling Company in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It was there she met the love of her life, Duane Van Meter. The two were married on October 9, 1960, in Denton, Texas, beginning what would become a beautiful and devoted 60-year marriage. In 1973, Duane and Lua moved from Midwest City to Canton, Oklahoma, where they opened Canton Farm Supply, a family-run business that has now served the community for over five decades. Lua was an integral part of the business-welcoming customers with a warm smile, offering her wisdom, and becoming a pillar in the town. Lua was deeply rooted in her faith, family, and community. Her hands were rarely idle - she had a gift for cooking, baking, and gardening, and was especially known for her "green thumb." Her home and garden reflected the care and pride she took in nurturing everything she touched, and her knowledge of plants and produce was encyclopedic. If you had a question, Lua had an answer. More than her talents, Lua will be remembered for her selflessness. She devoted her life to caring for others, always putting her family and friends before herself. Her home was a sanctuary-filled with love, laughter, and the comforting smells of something cooking in the oven. Her wisdom and calm presence brought peace and clarity in times of uncertainty. Lua was one of eight siblings and the proud mother of six children: Carolyn Carlisle, Deborah Acord, John Carlisle, Tim Carlisle, Gilbert Van Meter Jr., and Carl Van Meter. Her legacy lives on through her 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, each of whom she loved dearly and spoke of with pride. Lua was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband Duane, her daughter Carolyn, and her son Gilbert Jr. She is survived by her daughter Deborah Acord and her sons John Carlisle, Tim Carlisle, and Carl Van Meter, as well as her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lua's life was a shining example of grace, grit, and generosity. She leaves behind a legacy that will live on for generations. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the blessing to know and love her. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the Canton Christian Church with Keith Robinett officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Canton Senior Citizens or a local church. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.piercefuneralhomes.com.
