Luan Sung Wang of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully on August 2, 2024. She lived a long life of 85 years. Luan was born October 14, 1938 in the Shandong Province of China. She was the third of four siblings.
Luan grew up in the harshness of the Japanese incursion into China that would become part of World War II and the civil war between the Nationalists and Communists. Her family emigrated to Taiwan to find safety from the conflicts around 1949. It was in Taiwan that she was finishing her college studies when she married Jim Ming Wang and would have her only child, Warren Wang. From there, she would emigrate to the United States to begin her family life anew.
Luan would work many fields from dry cleaning to seamstress, but it was her role as homemaker where she would shine. She kept a family running like clockwork and was always there to care for everyone. Her fierceness and determination left few questions as to who ran the house. She was the motivator that drove the family forward and in her passing, the loss is felt across many avenues. In her passing, the world loses a friend, mother, and a woman that survived and endured some of history's greatest conflicts.
Luan is survived by her brother, Kai Sung and child, Warren Wang.
A viewing for Luan will be held at Greenlawn Crematory behind Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, SC on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 5:00 PM.
