Lucas Emmanuel Austin, 32 years old, died peacefully in his sleep on April 29th 2024 in Trenton, New Jersey.
Lucas was born on August 2, 1991 to parents, James Malcolm and Barbara Jeanne Austin in Jacksonville, North Carolina while his father was stationed at Camp Lejeune military base.
Lucas attended one year at Merrimack College but decided not to continue this level of education, stating that he knew more than his teachers, so he left to pursue a career in IT/Cyber Security at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) where he remained working until his passing.
Lucas never married or had any children of his own but adopted a puppy named Loki, whom he loved and cared for passionately. He was a basketball enthusiast and played pick up games wherever he could find them. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching sci-fi movies, running, and was a voracious reader.
Lucas was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Lee Austin and Karima Evans; his father, James Malcolm Austin and grandfather, Lee Briggs and uncle Dana Austin.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara Jeanne Austin and her partner, Audra Louie. He was a beloved brother to his older twin sisters, Leah and Robyn, his youngest sister, Noelle; surrogate brother, Jimmy Ho, as well as Audra's children, Tyler, Talya and Tara. He is also survived by a large blended family including loving grandparents, Sandra Briggs, Stephanie Hughley, Rose Ann Bush, Timothy and Linda Somes, and great grandparents, Robert and Lillie Smith.
We want to thank everyone for their love and support during this very difficult time. Your love and prayers continue to get us through each day as we move forward.

I remember talking to Lucas in depth about the world of Super Mario Bros., something I cherished as a kid. I remember even then, the love that lured in the atmosphere when he would visit. I didn´t see him many times as I´m a distant relative, but his impact was great enough to have left an impression on my heart. His presence was delicate as is a budding plant, and I´ll never forget Lucas. You´re loved forever.

Sincerely,
Abigail Hayes

Just last month I purchased a used computer for personal use - I mentioned it to Darrell who told Lucas. Lucas then spent over an hour with me explaining specific programs I should use for security and why I should use them. It happened so recently and I remember being so excited by his passion for his knowledge. About two years ago I mentioned to him that I had an interest in cybersecurity and he proceeded to let me know which online classes and certifications were best for him and that I could always reach out for advice and troubleshooting. I have always appreciated Lucas's technical acumen and extreme generosity. I always tried, sometimes successfully, to make him laugh in the elevator. I appreciated his wit so much. I felt safe knowing that he was the one taking care of BAM's cybersecurity and that he could easily explain anything and would do so happily. I will miss you much and remember you for your fiery spirit and brilliance. May he rest in power and peace

Although Lucas and I had a passion for basketball, we really bonded over the love for our dogs. After I met his dog Loki on campus, I often asked about her as we shared stories about being "fur dads". It was always nice to share thoughts and experiences with a colleague that I didn't always see on a daily basis. He will be missed

I shared a love of playing basketball with Lucas. He was really good and looked to improve his game as well as his conditioning. the last time we played he would run to do pull ups randomly as we were shooting around and talking about city life, BAM life and single life. He was the first person to explain how and why (some) hackers do the things they do and other aspects of the computer world I can barely grasp. He always had a smile. Rest in power Luc.
