In Loving Memory of Lucia Motta Escomilha

A Cherished Life Remembered

Lucia Motta Escomilha was born on August 9th, 1954, the youngest child in her family. Endearingly called A Menina, meaning little girl in Portuguese, Lucia was deeply cherished by her parents, Gabriel and Lourdes Motta. Her childhood was filled with warmth and affection, surrounded by family who treasured her presence.

In the early 1980s, Lucia and her family made the courageous decision to immigrate from Funchal, Madeira to East Providence, Rhode Island. This significant move marked a new chapter in their lives, filled with hope and opportunity.

After her parents returned to Portugal, Lucia began working at the Trifari factory. It was here that she met her future husband, Joe Escomilha. Together, they built a loving family and made their home in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Lucia was a devoted mother to her two children and an active member of her community, known for her kindness and generosity.

Lucia is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gabriel and Lourdes Motta, her sister Grace Baptista, and her children Melissa and Jeffrey Escomilha. Despite these profound losses, Lucia's spirit remained ever resilient and loving.

Lucia is survived by her cherished grandchildren: Liana and Shayla Jordao, and Gavin Escomilha. Her legacy continues through her extensive family both in Funchal, Madeira and across the United States. She also leaves behind her chosen family, who were especially close to her heart: Angela Connely, Talia and Aries Ruff, and Spencer Grumt.

Lucia will always be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the joy she brought to those around her. She greatly valued her friendships and the love she shared with those she considered family. A very special thank you is reserved for her daughter-in-law, Cari, whose support and care meant so much to Lucia.

Lucia Motta Escomilha's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and family. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Services for Lucia have been entrusted to the Berarducci Funeral Home, 185 Spring St Woonsocket and will be private.
