It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lucile C. Morgan, who passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025 at St. Andre's Healthcare in Biddeford, Maine.
Lucile was born on February 2, 1946 in Portland, ME to Gertrude (Painchaud) and Edgar Collette. She graduated from St. Andre's High School in Biddeford in 1964 and went on to get her BA and BFA at USM (then known as University of Maine Portland-Gorham). Lucile started on her MFA, and worked as a teacher at St. Joseph's in Biddeford and Edison School in Sanford. She also worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority and The Fabric Store.
Lucile lived in Southern Maine most of her life. She moved to New Mexico as a young adult, later returning to Maine. She loved visiting family in Michigan. She also loved Quebec City-especially around Christmastime.
Lucile's take on life was always a little unexpected. She might make a little small talk, but a conversation with her always took a turn toward more interesting and surprising things. She loved to learn and share her knowledge with the people around her. She was a creative and talented woman who had many interests.
She created art with just about any medium you can think of. She did all sorts of different crafts and home improvement projects as well--always with an artistic flair.
For the past 15 years or so, Lucile enjoyed woodturning. She was a member of Southern Maine Woodturners, New Hampshire Woodturners, and Women in Turning.
Lucile did extensive genealogical research-for her own family tree and others'-before the internet existed, which involved travelling and poring over old records. She was especially interested in her maternal line-partly because she was so close to her maternal grandmother: Marie Anna Miville-dit-Deschenes Painchaud. She compiled her research for family and friends, complete with stories and photos of their ancestors.
Lucile loved classical and folk music. She played piano and organ, and even made her own dulcimer. She was fluent in both French and English and loved to sing old French songs.
Lucile was also an equestrian. She did dressage-training and riding her own horses and, of course, creating her own outfits for shows. She talked affectionately about all the horses she had known, but a special favorite was her Morab, Lady Camelot.
Through the years, she cherished her connections to family and friends, and her pets.
Lucile is survived by many cousins who loved her very much.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025 at St. Joseph's Cemetery (120 West St. Biddeford, ME in the St. Andre's section, Row 3, Lot 9).
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation to Hospice of Southern Maine at 390 US Route One Scarborough, ME 04074 or online at www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/donate
