SALEM - Lucille E. Boston, 90, passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 23, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Lucille, affectionately known by "Lu," was born on September 19, 1935 in
Salem, Ohio, the daughter of Harold and Frances (Chalker) Wilson.
An alumna of Berlin Center High School, Class of 1954, Lu's zeal for knowledge and helping others propelled her to further her education at the Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing. Her nurturing spirit found its calling as she became a Licensed Practical Nurse, a vocation she embraced with grace and professionalism. Throughout her career, she provided comfort and care at Salem Community Hospital, as well as various nursing homes including Hutton, Essex, the Convalescent Center, Pleasantview, and Countryside, from which she retired.
Aside from her professional achievements, Lu's personal life was rich with joy and adventure. In her vivacious 20s, she reveled in the thrill of competitive rollerskating. While out for a fun evening with friends at the local roller rink, Lu met her soulmate, Howard L. Boston. The couple exchanged vows on October 20, 1962, embarking on a marital journey filled with love and mutual respect, lasting 44 years until Howard's passing in 2007.
Lu's role as a homemaker was performed with the same passion and love as her nursing career. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, and an adoring grandmother. Her home was a haven of warmth and celebration, especially during family gatherings and holidays, where her famous lasagna and the laughter from card and board games were heard throughout her home.
Her faith and family were the twin pillars of her existence. A dedicated member of Real Life Assembly Church for over three decades, Lu's voice graced the worship choir, and her creativity shone as the puppet director. In her later years, she continued to share her faith at Greenford Christian Church.
Lu's leisure time was characterized by her love for the simple pleasures of life. Whether it was being engrossed in a movie at home, experiencing the excitement of a new release at the theater, belting out tunes during karaoke, or indulging in a day of retail therapy, her zest for life was infectious. An animal lover at heart, she cherished the companionship of her cats and dogs, who were a source of comfort and joy throughout her years.
Lucille will be forever cherished and remembered as a humble and loving woman who approached life with a gentle sense of humor. Her legacy of generosity, selflessness, and faith will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her.
She leaves to carry on her legacy, her children, Richard (Flo) Boston of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Diana Boston of Salem, Karen Boston of Salem, and John (Gin) Boston of Columbus; her daughter-in-law, Marcella Boston of Cincinatti; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her grandpups, Taliah and Sydney.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lu was preceded in death by her son, Rev. Louis Boston; siblings, Ruth Gatrell and Harold Wilson; and grandson, Nathaniel Boston.
Family and friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Stark Memorial Funeral Home, 1014 E. State St., Salem, where a Nightingale Tribute will be celebrated at 6:15 p.m. by the Northeast Ohio Nurse Honor Guard.
