Anna Lucille "Lu" Siron Groah, 91, passed away peacefully at her residence in Staunton on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

She was born on September 2, 1932, in Staunton, to the late William Pearl and Mabel Catherine Fox Siron.

Lu lived a remarkable life filled with dedication and passion. After a long and successful career, she retired from Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center as an X-ray technician.

Outside of her career, Lu was an active member of Linden Heights Baptist Church in Staunton. She found solace and strength in her church community. She also loved her pets very much.

One of Lu’s true passions was songwriting. In 1966, she penned the patriotic lyrics to "Hammers and Nails." Alongside Johnny Cash, Staunton's own Statler Brothers recorded this song - truly a testament to Lu’s talent and creativity. Her contribution to music will always be cherished by those fortunate enough to have heard this collaboration.

Lucille leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Daniel "Danny" Lenwood Groah and his wife, Lisa; her granddaughter, Anna "Andi" D. Groah; her grandson, Evan Daniel Groah; and numerous cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lenwood "Lenny" Watson Groah, who passed away in 2002; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law; and numerous aunts and uncles.

The family would like to specifically thank the staff and caregivers of the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for all their care and support during this time, as well as to Robin, Joy, and Tiffany. They would also like to add a a special thanks to Janette Coleman for her guidance.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Thornrose Cemetery in Staunton with the Reverend Luke Smith officiating.

Lu's impact on the Staunton community and the lives she touched will forever remain cherished memories. Her kindness, talent, and unwavering faith continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her presence will be deeply missed.
