Lucille Kalmin Obituary
Published by Legacy on Dec. 23, 2025.
Our beloved mother, Lucille Kalmin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 20th.
Born on January 15th, 1932, to Frank & Harriet Allen in Yakima. She was the youngest of six siblings.
She attended grade school (1st-8th) at Wide Hollow and graduated from Yakima High School in 1950.
She met her future husband, Hank Kalmin, in February of 1953 at a USO dance in Yakima. He was stationed at Larson Air Force base in Moses Lake. They dated through the year and eloped to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to marry on December 13, 1953.
Lucille was employed by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services as a clerical supervisor for over 42 years. She was acknowledged as Employee of the Year during her tenure.
Lucille and Hank were blessed with three daughters to make their family complete: Vicki, Jan and Sandy.
Lucille loved the many adventures that she and Hank had together over the years, including jeeping with the Ridgerunners in the mountains, and mud races and festivities at the Jeep Bowl. When winter came, the trips to their cabin and snowmobiling took the place of jeep activities. They even added boating to their list and joined the Yakima Valley Boat Club. Mom loved the beautiful scenery of the San Juan Islands and friends they made along the way. She also loved the trips they'd made to the Oregon Coast and of course the visits to Reno and Laughlin to do a little gambling.
She loved being a grandma- whether it was reading books, gardening, shopping with her grandkids or attending their sporting events, band concerts or award ceremonies. She was always there to support her six grandkids and always as proud as could be.
Mom was also blessed to be a great-grandma eleven times over and her eyes lit up whenever she saw each one of them!
Outside of family, Mom's true love was sports-specifically the Seattle Mariners & Seahawks! She was so hoping the Mariners would have made the World Series, but she'll be looking down and cheering them on when they make it next year!
She will be so missed by many for her kind heart, her honesty and her strong faith.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Harriet Allen, her siblings- Elsie (Stoutenburg), Cecil, Virgil, Bob and Leonard and her husband, Hank Kalmin.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Dave) Mills, Jan (Randy) McKinney and Sandy (Michael) Duerre; her grandkids, Chad (Daidre) Mckinney, Brett (Amber) McKinney, Kyle (Amy) Mills, Brean (George) Garcia, Reiley Duerre and Regan Duerre; her great-grandkids, Gage, Lace, Juls and Andi McKinney, Caitrin McKinney, Mikayla, Brody and Parker Mills, Kolby, and Quinnlyn Clark and Aliza Garcia.
We'd like to express our heartfelt appreciation for the staff and residents at Avista for the loving care and friendship they gave to our mom and family.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at St. Paul Cathedral.
Our mom loved animals and in lieu of flowers we encourage donations in her memory to Wags to Riches, All Mutts Great and Small or the Yakima Humane Society.
