Lucille “Lucy” Diesch, 96, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 1 - 2 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Suzanne Seigel Renner will officiate. A Private Family Inurnment will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery in Earlville, Iowa.
Lucy was born on April 11, 1929, in Waucoma, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Flavia (Perrin) Kammerman. She spent her childhood in the Monticello and Greeley areas. Lucy was an ambitious girl, had a paper route, was a Gal Friday for the ladies in the area, and worked for the Delaware County Government during high school and for several months following her graduation from Greeley High School.
Lucy loved to dance and met her husband, John “Jack” Diesch at a teen dance. They were married November 8, 1946, and raised their family in the Edgewood area. Together they farmed and operated a fertilizer business, until retiring to Arkansas for 17 years, returning to Iowa in 2005. Lucy continued dancing her entire life, teaching ballroom dance classes with Jack throughout Northeast Iowa. She tap-danced with the Bella Vista Sophisticated Ladies and was active with a line-dancing group in Marion into her 90’s.
While living in the Edgewood area, Lucy was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where she sang with the choir and held many offices with the United Methodist Women. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Avalon Chapter of Eastern Star, past Chief of the Pythian Sisters, and part of the Dorcas Circle that quilted for the needy. While living in Arkansas, she was a member of the Bella Vista Community Church, Chair of the Board of Evangelism, and Community Outreach for Stephen Ministries. She had many interests, including sewing, gardening, entertaining, travel, playing piano, playing golf, and swimming and bicycling. Lucy was an avid reader, especially scripture. She had a heart for reaching out to those in need and calling on the elderly. Lucy was independent well into her 90’s. She traveled the road of life with deep faith in her Lord. Above all, her greatest joy was time spent with family.
Lucy is survived by her four children, Diedra Diesch, Janelle Every, Brad (Anna) Diesch, and Kurt (Renee) Diesch; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, who passed away on the eve of their 68th wedding anniversary; her parents; brother, Louis Kammerman; and sister, Rena King.
Memorials in Lucy’s memory may be directed to the family.
