Lucille Miles Montgomery, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September17, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on January 3, 1932, in Guilford County, NC, she filled her life with love, creativity and unwavering support for those around her.
Lucille was an extraordinary homemaker and mother, embodying warmth and kindness in every aspect of her life. Her dedication to her family was evident in everything she did, from her outstanding culinary skills—where she could often be found whipping up homemade candies during the Christmas season—to her impressive talent as a seamstress. She was particularly known for crafting beautiful dresses, including her daughter’s wedding dress, and spent countless hours making ballet dresses, purses, and Barbie dresses that brought joy to the girls in her family.
In her youth, Lucille showcased her athletic talents as a standout basketball player for Gibsonville High School, earning recognition as an All-County player in her junior year. This spirited nature extended into her hobbies; she had a green thumb and loved to garden, creating stunning displays of flowers that could brighten anyone's day. Moreover, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, often sharing her creations with family and friends.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Lucinda M. Vetter (Robert Loy); sons, Thomas Montgomery (Nancy), Christopher Montgomery (Patty), and Michael Montgomery; as well as her 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Kathy Miles Widenhouse, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
She joins in eternal rest her beloved husband, Frank Thomas Montgomery, and her late family members, including her parents, Walter Curry Miles and Esther Hinton Miles; her brother, W.C. Miles, Jr.; her sisters, Frances Moser and Margaret Miles Tickle Dolan; daughter in law, Martha Haley Montgomery; and her grandson, Andy Montgomery.
A memorial service to celebrate Lucille’s life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Lucille will be profoundly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
