Lucille Pescevich Obituary

Lucille Marie Pescevich Kill Devil Hills - Lucille Marie Andersen Pescevich, born October 14th 1936 to Sigvald and Sylvia Andersen in Brooklyn NY, widow of Richard Amos Pescevich, passed away peacefully on July 3rd 2025 at her residence in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Her daughter was in attendance; Lucille was 88 years old. She is survived by daughter Cathy and son-in-law Gordon, son Jon and daughter-in-law Erika, granddaughters Stefany, Jennifer, Eva and Samantha, great-grandchildren Marshall, Maribel, Madelyn, Amelia Lucille, Max, and Richard aka "Charlie," niece Joy, nephew Tim, cousins Lauranne and Lois, extended family, and everyone's partners.

Lucille was accomplished, dynamic and inspiring. She was the driving force behind decades of joyous gatherings for family and friends. Lucille grew up in Brooklyn, spent summers in a hand-built beach bungalow on Staten Island, and attended Hunter College on scholarship, graduating at age 20 with a Bachelor's in English with minor concentrations in English and Drama. She married Richard in 1957, and together they raised two children (both successful musicians), furthered their respective education and careers, organized and ran an independent Parent Teacher Organization, put on Richard's original musical plays at their church, made many lasting friendships, and travelled the world.

Lucille's early career was as a public school teacher in New Jersey. Over time, her teaching grew specialized. She gravitated towards helping students to whom success did not come readily in the traditional classroom. Eventually, Lucille returned to school herself, earning a Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology at William Patterson University. As a Nationally Certified Speech Language Pathologist, Lucille taught at Calais School in Hanover NJ, maintained a private practice, and became President of the NJ Speech and Hearing Association.

In 1993, Lucille and Richard moved to Edenton, NC, where they spent nearly 30 of their 65 married years. In retirement, she was an avid tennis player, church choir member, line dancer, supper club enthusiast, food pantry volunteer, and friend of the library. She consulted with the local hospital to establish speech pathology services there, and she organized and directed Language Bridges, a free community program for teaching English to non-native speakers. This successful program, housed in and fostered by Edenton United Methodist Church, served the Edenton community for 11 years, before it was relocated to another community in need.

Lucille's family and friends wish this great champion her well deserved rest. According to her wishes, Lucille was cremated on July 4th 2025. A celebration of life will be held in her honor at Edenton United Methodist Church on October 18th, 2025.
