Grandma Lucy made the best cookies! I´ll always remember grabbing as many as I could on Christmas.

I met Lucy in 1979 at Southwestern Bell. I was a dumb kid working my first real job. Lucy was kind, patient, and cheerful as she became my friend and "work mom". Lucy once mentioned spending the day with several of her friends making povitiza. I thought it sounded delicious and asked her for the recipe. Lucy tried to explain that it was not a project for amateurs, but I was young, ambitious, and clueless, so I persisted. She finally relented and gave me a copy of her handwritten recipe. I don´t recall if it was the 11 cups of flour or the part about covering the entire table with a cloth that finally knocked sense into me, but I realized I was out of my depth. I never did make the povitiza, but I still have Lucy´s recipe. I last talked to Lucy 2 or 3 years ago and she still sounded like the same wise and wonderful lady I met in 1979. My deepest condolences to your family.
