Luella M. Nelson, age 98, of Litchfield and formerly Atwater, died on Monday November 21, 2011, at the Dassel Lakeside Care Center. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Atwater. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery in Atwater. Luella Mary Nelson, the daughter of Mikal and Louise (Lommel) Konshak, was born on September 12, 1913 in Litchfield. She grew up and attended school in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School. She continued her education at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where she received her RN training. In 1937 she was united in marriage to Walter S. Nelson in Minneapolis. Together they engaged in farming just southwest of Atwater until 1969. She moved into Atwater where she lived until December of 2010 when she moved to Lincoln Apartments in Litchfield. In early October of 2011 she moved to the Dassel Lakeside Care Center. She was and active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening and had a large vegetable garden until she was in her 90s. She volunteered as a driver for the Atwater Block Nurse program. She lead a very active life and was somewhat adventuresome. Luella was fond of her pets, especially her cats. She loved her family and attended many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's events. Luella is survived by her children, Winton (and Kristine) Nelson of Litchfield and Wende (and Scott Mills) Nelson of Ely, grandchildren, Stephanie (and Darin) Hansen, Jason (and Sandy) Nelson and Sara Nelson. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Leah, Darik and Ella Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, and brothers Larry and Leslie.
