Obituary published on Legacy.com by Macy & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Dec. 2, 2025.
Luis Alberto Delgado was born on June 13, 1979, in
Los Angeles, California, to Balbina Castellano. He faced the challenges of early onset Alzheimer's, which ultimately led to his passing on November 29th, 2025. As an infant, he was adopted by his loving Mom and Dad Rose and Dean Calhoon, who nurtured him into the kind, caring, and respectful man he became. Known affectionately as "Louie," he grew up in Yamhill, Oregon.
Luis graduated high school from Banks Christian Academy in 1998. Like many, he faced difficulties in his youth and young adulthood but emerged from them stronger and more resilient.
In 2010, Luis's world was forever changed when he welcomed his beloved son, Benjamin. From that moment on, their lives were intertwined with love, laughter, and countless adventures. Luis made it a priority to fill their days with joyful outings-trips to stores, exciting visits to arcades, and fun-filled hours at the bowling alley and of course FOOD! Every moment spent together was a chance for Luis to show Benjamin how much he cared. A special part of their bond was reflected in their shared love for Nike. Luis, always enthusiastic about the brand, selected only the finest Nike clothing for Benjamin. This love for style and quality didn't stop there; it extended to their shared passion for shoes. Friends and family could easily see how much Luis cherished sneakers, and he took great pride in passing this appreciation on to his son. Together, they embraced the Nike spirit, united not only by the brand but by a deep, enduring bond that every father dreams of nurturing with his child
In 2019, Luis returned to his roots in Yamhill, Oregon. That July, he reunited with his long-lost friend, Princess Martinez, who loved and supported him until the end of his journey. After numerous tests and doctor visits, Luis received the early onset Alzheimer's diagnosis in the fall of 2023.
Although he didn't fully grasp the situation, he maintained a positive outlook, often declaring, "God says I'm gonna make it." Even when he sensed something was amiss with his mind, he met questions about fear with a resolute "No!" On August 24, 2024, Luis and Princess celebrated a heartfelt commitment ceremony surrounded by family, friends, and their faith. As his condition evolved, he struggled with speech and forming complete sentences; yet, he never lost his vibrant spirit, often flexing and playfully showing off his muscles. Luis had a passion for all music, especially if it had an infectious beat, and he loved to dance ("Bah, Bah, Bah... if you know, you know"). His jovial "HEEEYYYY" was a signature greeting that often sparked some spontaneous dance moves. He enjoyed watching football, proudly supporting the Seahawks, and cheering on Patrick Mahomes, aka Homes. He also cherished boxing and trips to the beach, always eager to lend a hand to those in need.
I want to extend a special thank you to his Caregivers Anthony (Homie) as he cared and loved Luis as a brother the last year he was with us. You da best!
Thank you to Gentiva and Brighton Hopice for your loving care with Luis.
