Luis Hernandez, 59, of Newark Valley, NY went to be with Jesus in Paradise on November 17, 2021. Luis, or better known to his loved ones as Louie, met his beloved wife Ruth in 2010. They dated for almost 3 years before getting married on July 20, 2013. Louie brought so much joy and laughter to all of those around him, both at home and at work. He was the first retail manager of KB Toys in the Syracuse mall. Louie worked for almost 40 years as a successful Retail Store Manager, with his most recent employment being Ocean State Job Lot in Johnson City, NY. His favorite pastimes included cooking Thanksgiving turkey, apple picking with his kids, fishing with his daughter, spending time with family, wrestling with his grandson Kyle, pretending to fall asleep in front of his granddaughter Emma, playing peekaboo with his granddaughter Anna, antiquing with his wife, and going to the diner. His favorite food was rice and beans with porkchops and fried plantains. Louie's faith was most important to him, he gave his life to the Lord and enjoyed volunteering at three churches. Louie was an amazing man, a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, and her sons Jacob, Caleb and Lucas; his daughter Jessica (fiancé Scott); his sons Eric (Julie) and Michael (Allie); and his three grandchildren, Kyle, Emma, and Anna. They called him Pop-Pop and loved every second spent with him. He is also survived by his mother Aida Hernandez and his two younger brothers, Eddie (Stacy) and Ivan (Kelly); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Luis Hernandez. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends, especially Jason Weaver.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral service at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St. Newark Valley, NY on Saturday, November 20th at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in Hope Cemetery for family. All are invited to a time of fellowship and luncheon served at the Fire Training Center, 191 McMaster St. Owego, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may kindly be sent to the New Life Ministries Church, 201 Hill Ave. Endicott, NY 13760, in loving memory of Louie. I didn't know Luis that much but when he went to Ocean State Job Lot, he helped make work actually fun, but after a while I never saw him at work. At first I thought he left or was sick, it was well over a year since I last saw him until I discovered this obituary recently, gonna miss you man, you were a great boss to me.

I've known Luis for a couple years now. Great man I still remember meeting him I was walking into the store he was training at. I held the door open casual small talk. I was walking to the backroom to talk to the manager when I realized he was the new guy. I introduced myself to him and the training manager asked if we met already. Without hesitation Luis responded Paul and I go way back... We met at the front door. I couldn't help but burst out laughing. Great person rest in peace my friend.
