Luis Lazo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shook Funeral Home, Inc. - Clifton on Mar. 3, 2026.
Dr. Luis Roba Lazo, 65, of Clifton, passed away on February 19, 2026. Born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba to parents Anselma Lazo Hernandez and Claudio Roba Soto (deceased), he came to the United States in 1994 and lived in West New York, NJ before settling down in Clifton.

Dr. Roba completed his studies in Cardiology in November 1992 at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. He later joined the thousands of Cubans that fled the island in the Raft Rider Exodus. Aunts, uncles, and his cousins helped him adjust to life here in the United States and he ultimately settled in West New York, NJ. Though the Cuban government took possession of his degree, they did not stop his love for the medical sciences. He became a phlebotomist and later a Medical Assistant and served the communities of North Bergen, Union City, and West New York.

He is survived by spouse, Beatriz (née Enriquez); his mother Anselma Lazo and siblings Claudio Jose and Barby del Carmen in Cuba; children Joseph, George (wife Julia), Luis (Cuba), and Juana (Cuba); step-children Jonathan and Jennifer Suarez (partner Christopher Reigle); grandchildren, Morgan Roba, Cassian and Luna Reigle; and aunt (Magdalena) and cousins throughout the US.

A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 8th, 2026, from 2-4 PM at the Shook Funeral Home, 639 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, NJ 07013.
