Luis Estyvan Maradiaga, age 12, of Pottstown, and formerly Gilbertsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia following a courageous 16-month battle with brain cancer. Born on January 25, 2012 in
Phoenixville, PA, he was a son of Luis Alfredo Maradiaga and the late Melissa Brittney Nicole (Dinich) Maradiaga.
Estyvan was a beloved 7th grader currently attending Pottstown Middle School. He was a talented artist who was passionate about drawing. He enjoyed fishing with his dad, watching scary movies, and listening to music. Estyvan looked forward to family vacations, most notably to Disney World, as well as the airplane rides. He was also fond of the mountains and camping, as well as going to the shore and Ocean City, NJ.
During last year's NHL Season, Estyvan was honored by the Philadelphia Flyers during the "Hockey Fights Cancer" campaign, and he dropped the ceremonial first puck on the ice at a Flyers game.
Estyvan was always giving back to others. In that spirit, and at his own request, as a final act after his passing, Estyvan chose donation through the Gift From A Child organization at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. It was his hope that this gesture would help brain cancer research, and other children would not have to go through what he went through.
In addition to his father, Estyvan is survived by one sister, Ava-Marie Custer; paternal grandparents, Silvia Camejo and Lelo Carcamo; maternal grandparents, Linda Melice and Mark Dinich; Uncles and Aunts, Jose Maradiaga, Lazaro Camejo, Rebecca Dinich, Savannahjo Melice and Lexie Melice; many Great-Aunts, Great-Uncles, and cousins including Great-Aunt Lisa Colletti and Great-Uncle, Wayne Colletti; as well as his most recent caregiver, Reyna Guardado and her children, Estyvan's best friends, Mario, Bryan, Yahaira, and Crystal Guardado.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at Valley Forge Baptist, 616 S. Trappe Road, Collegeville, PA on Thursday, November 14, 2024 promptly at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Scott E. Wendal. Burial will follow in the Washington Memorial Chapel Churchyard, Valley Forge, PA. Friends will be received from 9:00 AM-10:45 AM at Valley Forge Baptist.
