Luis Torres

Luis Torres, 28, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on June 22, 1997, in Madera, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jose Luis Torres and Socorro Lizbeth Estrada.

Luis was raised in Mexico and later moved to Lakin during second grade, where he attended Lakin schools and grew up in the community he came to call home. On June 14, 2025, he married the love of his life, Tonya Medrano, in Garden City.

Luis was known for his willingness to help anyone in need. Whether it was a project or a repair, he never hesitated to lend a hand. If he didn't know how to fix something, he took the time to learn. A true jack of all trades, Luis was generous with his time and talents and never turned anyone away. He loved spending time with family and friends and was always ready for music, food, and dancing. His sense of humor and playful spirit ensured there was never a dull moment when he was around.

Above all else, Luis cherished his time with the most important people in his life-his wife and two children.

Luis is survived by his wife, Tonya Torres; his children, Jaydah Chavez and Zaidyn Torres; his mother, Lizbeth Estrada; his brother, Kevin (Emily) Torres; brothers-in-law, Angel Medrano and Beto Medrano; sister-in-law, Mirella Alcantar; nephew and nieces, Easton Alcantar, Zaniyah Medrano, Emersyn Wishon, and Jaira Torres; and his aunt and uncle, Fernando and Arianna Chavez, who helped raise him and were always there for him. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jose Luis Torres, and his mother-in-law, Mary Tina Medrano.

Funeral Service will be held Monday February 9, 2026 at 2:00pm at the Lakin Assembly of God Church with Pastor Rafael Franco officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Luis Torres Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
