Luisa Marquez Olivas, age 85, passed away peacefully in Brownwood, Texas on October 1, 2025. She was born on April 10, 1940, in Artesia, New Mexico, to Luis and Cruz Marquez. She married Manuel Flores Olivas on October 7, 1957, in Artesia. They shared nearly 68 years together, raising a beautiful family and creating a life filled with love.
Luisa spent most of her life in Odessa, Texas, where she and her husband, Manuel, built a home and raised their family. She worked as a school bus driver for many years and later as a cafeteria worker at Crockett Middle School in Odessa, where she worked hard to help support her family and care for those she loved.
Luisa loved traveling, sewing, and baking. She especially loved cheering on family at every sporting event. She enjoyed making the holidays special for all those around her. Luisa opened their house to everyone who needed a home and was a safe place for so many.
Above all, she loved her family deeply and found great strength and comfort in her Catholic faith.
She is survived by her husband, Manuel Flores Olivas, and her children Manuel Olivas Jr. and wife Mary, son-in-law Elias Aguirre, Cathy Cantu and husband George, Viola McLaughlin, Thomas Olivas, and Oscar Olivas and wife Maribel. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Lita.” She had a deep devotion to her family, who brought her such joy and pride throughout her life.
Luisa was preceded in death by her parents, Luis and Cruz Marquez; her sister, Mary Estrada; her daughter, Teresa Aguirre; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Frances Olivas.
