After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served from 2016 to 2024 in both active duty and as a reservist. After his discharge from active duty, he returned to the Hartland area where he worked at L and D for 5 years.

Luke was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking and traveling throughout the year. He was able to use his interest to meet and spend time with a stream of new friends. Luke was a friend to everyone and strangers he met became fast friends. He was kind and would help anyone who needed it. He also had a great love of all kinds of music. He often played his favorite songs on the juke box and singing loudly. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and was excited to be the “cool uncle.”

Luke is survived by his parents Mathew Hershey and Carrie Hershey; sisters, Lauryn Hershey and Lindsey Hershey; grandparents, Lowell and Debby Gabriel and Fran and Bill Fynbo; nephew, Kohen Cox; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Keith Hershey and his great grandparents.
