Luke Hershey, 26, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024. A public memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home in Albert Lea, MN. Following the service, a public visitation will be held until 3pm.
Luke was born on February 23, 1998, in Albert Lea, MN to Mathew and Carrie Hershey. He grew up in Emmons area and graduated from Lake Mills High school in 2016. He loved his shop classes and mechanic classes. During high school, he worked at Dave’s Service Station where he enjoyed working as mechanic as well as pumping gas and interacting with customers. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served from 2016 to 2024 in both active duty and as a reservist. After his discharge from active duty, he returned to the Hartland area where he worked at L and D for 5 years.
Luke was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking and traveling throughout the year. He was able to use his interest to meet and spend time with a stream of new friends. Luke was a friend to everyone and strangers he met became fast friends. He was kind and would help anyone who needed it. He also had a great love of all kinds of music. He often played his favorite songs on the juke box and singing loudly. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and was excited to be the “cool uncle.”
Luke is survived by his parents Mathew Hershey and Carrie Hershey; sisters, Lauryn Hershey and Lindsey Hershey; grandparents, Lowell and Debby Gabriel and Fran and Bill Fynbo; nephew, Kohen Cox; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Keith Hershey and his great grandparents.
