Luke Janis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson - Larson Funeral Home, Minot on Sep. 30, 2025.
Luke Janis, beloved son, father, grandpa, brother and friend, passed away unexpectedly on September 29, 2025, at the age of 46, at a Minot Hospital.

Luke was born in Rapid City, South Dakota, to JoAnn Carlton and Francis Janis. He was raised in North Dakota by his mother and attended Surrey High School, where he excelled in basketball and football. In time, he chose to make Surrey his lifelong home.

Luke was deeply dedicated to his work and spent the past 15 years with TechnipFMC, most recently serving as a Flowback Manager. While many came and went, Luke remained. He was known for joking around with the guys in the field, always keeping spirits high. His sense of humor and easygoing nature made him well liked by everyone he worked with.

Luke's greatest pride and joy in life were his five children: KyLee, Kobe, Mikah, Elyjah, and River. His home was filled top to bottom with their artwork and countless photos.

A lifelong football fan, Luke lived and breathed the Washington Redskins. Game days were sacred in the Janis household. If a game was on, everyone knew not to bother him, unless, of course, it was to talk football.

Luke had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He never missed an opportunity to crack a joke, even at the most unexpected (and sometimes inappropriate) times. His laughter, goofiness, and the light he brought into others' lives will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Luke is survived by his loving family: his mother, JoAnn Grilley; his brother, Kane (Laurie); his children, KyLee (Christopher), Kobe, Mikah, Elyjah, and River; his grandchildren, Klay and Koda; his significant other, Joelle; his dog, Roxie; and his niece and nephews, Alexandria, Kaden, and Kaleb; and many lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Janis; his grandmother, Gloria Walls; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 5 from Noon to 2 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home in Minot.

In honor of Luke's love for football, the family invites everyone attending the funeral to wear their favorite football jersey or shirt. The service will be livestreamed for the public to view and can be accessed by going to Thompson-Larson Funeral Home's YouTube channel at https://youtube.com/live/5TknS53XidE?feature=share
