Luke Altie Smith, age 3, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on October 14, 2025. He was born on August 25, 2022, in Chanute, Kansas, to his loving parents, Ben and Rachel Smith.

Though his time on earth was short, Luke's presence filled every space he entered. Strong in every aspect and full of personality, he quickly became known to all as "the boss." His big brother, Lincoln, proudly described him that way, and always made sure Luke was happy and cared for. Luke, in turn, adored his brother and wanted nothing more than to be "big like Lincoln."

Luke had a spirit that was unforgettable, both tender and determined. His dad would often say that he "was so easy to love," while his mom knew that his love language came through with playful aggression. Even the hospitals where he spent time admired his character, often working hard to "win him over," a task not easily accomplished.

He carried simple joys close to his heart: his beloved "Taggy" and his favorite cup, replaced every month because of the love and use he poured into it. Luke had two pets, Weenie was never far from him, his other dog Murphy was loved from afar, and his love for music was seen in his endless dancing to "Boogie Shoes" by KC and the Sunshine Band or while watching Frozen, his absolute favorite.

Luke had a natural talent for baseball. He was known for wearing his brother's baseball helmet backwards, perfecting his "batflip," and showing off his remarkably accurate throwing arm. He loved cheering on Lincoln at games, always watching with pride and admiration.

Family and friends will remember Luke as a boy who touched lives far beyond his years. He loved going to Jesus's house, A.K.A. church. The family will forever be grateful for the nurses and doctors who walked alongside them, celebrating Luke's joys and victories. Luke's story touched hearts well beyond his hometown, and the family is grateful for the outpouring of love they have received from near and far.

Luke will be reunited with his grandfather, Dewayne Altie Smith; grandmother, Paula Green; and great-grandpa, Altie Smith.

Luke is survived by his parents, Ben and Rachel Smith; his brother, Lincoln Smith; grandparents, Monica Sellman, Vicki Smith, and Steve Green; aunts and uncles, Matt and Stevie Green, Tristan Fraker; as well as many other friends and family.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Luke's funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service followed by burial in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
