Luther Rollins Obituary

Luther Eugene "Gene" Rollins

April 16, 1949 - May 1, 2024

Blythewood, South Carolina - Luther Eugene "Gene" Rollins, age 75, of Greer, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024. He was born on April 16, 1949, in Greer, SC, the son of the late James Fred Rollins and Ethel Forrester Rollins.

Gene had a remarkable life marked by service, dedication, and love. He graduated from Blue Ridge High School and then honorably served his country in the US Army for four years during the Vietnam War. Gene's bravery and sacrifice were recognized with two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for Valor.

Following his military service, Gene embarked on a distinguished 43-year career at Catawba Nuclear Station-Duke Energy in York, where his hard work and dedication left an indelible mark. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family and faith.

Gene's greatest joy in life was his family. He shared 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Brenda Faye Rollins. Together, they raised a loving family and built a beautiful life centered around faith and love.

Gene is survived by his children: Wendell Rollins (Suzanne) of Springfield, Oregon; Tabatha Cothern of Elgin, SC; and Tonya Rollins of Blythewood, SC. He was a loving grandfather to Angela Cothern (Jason) of Elgin, SC; Crystal McDowell (Jordan) of Springfield, Oregon; Samantha of Weddington, NC; and Brian Cothern of Weddington, NC. Gene was also a devoted great-grandfather to Arya Jagan ("Little Mae") and Elijah Thomas McDowell.

Gene found strength and solace in his faith as an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rock Hill, SC, particularly within Tim Vaughn's Sunday School class.

He is also survived by his siblings: Brenda DuBose (Robert), Randall Rollins (Elaine), Rebecca Justice (Danny), and Eddie Rollins (Elizabeth).

Gene Rollins will be remembered for his lighting up a room, unwavering integrity, selflessness, and love for his family and community. His legacy of honor and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.

A graveside service to celebrate Gene's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tim Vaughn Sunday School Class c/o Calvary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 11650, Rock Hill, SC 29731, in Gene's honor.

Gene touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is now with the King.
