Mr. Luther Stubbs III, 76, of
Cortland, Ohio was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at St. Joseph Hospital, Warren Ohio.
Mr. Stubbs was born on October 21, 1949 in
Youngstown, Ohio, the oldest of 8 children to Luther Stubbs Jr and Waddie Lee (Young) Stubbs.
Mr. Stubbs attended North and East High School, receiving his formal education from Youngstown State University majoring in Social Work; numerous training related to Chemical Dependency Counseling; Steven Covey Training and Project Adventure for Team Building. He was a State of Ohio Chemical Dependency Professional Board certified licensed Independent Chemical Dependent Counselor/Clinical Supervisor.
Employed by Neil Kennedy Recovery, he held the positions of Clinical Assistant, Outpatient Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Supervisor of Adolescent Chemical Dependency Program. For eight years, Luther was employed by Forum Health as Champ Coordinator, providing teambuilding for schools, churches, social agencies and corporations at the Forum Health Rope Course. In 1998 he became an Independent Consultant for Youngstown Community Action Council Head Start Program. In 2001 Youngstown Area Community Action Council hired Mr. Stubbs in the position of Program Development Trainer and held the position of Parent Involvement/Fatherhood Program Manager. He worked at Jefferson School in Warren, Ohio as a Behavior Specialist until he retired in 2014.
As Lasting Support, Inc. founder and owner in 2002, Luther Stubbs III provided consultation and team building services; conducted and coordinated team building for outdoor low and high rope courses including portable initiatives for several corporations. He was the Co-founder of Ebony Lifeline Support Group, a minority support group supporting those with chemical dependency issues.
Mr. Stubbs served on several Boards: Trumbull County Children Services, Neil Kennedy Recovery Board, Valley Counseling Board, and Foster Grand-Parenting Board; Community Correction Association (CCA) Board, Urban Minority Alcoholism & Drug Abuse Outreach Program (UMADAOP), and participated in Teen Institute; and founder of Gigs an adolescent support group. Throughout the years Mr. Stubbs received many awards and certifications; and the Forum Health Employee of the year 1995.
First and foremost, he was a child of God, and a member of Believers Church in Warren. He was an avid roller-skater, music lover, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his love ones.
Those left to mourn his passing and to celebrate his life, his wife, Floree (Jones) Richburg Stubbs, whom he married November 18, 1989; four children, Luther Stubbs IV, Anthony Stubbs, Sophawnia Coleman, Darcela Brown; two stepsons, Eric F. Richburg and Ondre' Richburg; a combined 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; four siblings, Brenda Lawrence (Cleveland, OH), Dorothy Rucker (Youngstown OH), Carl Stubbs (Jacksonville, FL) and Cheryl Kelly (
Youngstown, Ohio); and host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Besides his father; and mother, Waddie Lee Fisher, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Aaron Stubbs, Richard Stubbs, Randall Stubbs; and his granddaughter, Nataia Coleman.
Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Believers Church, 2577 Schenley Avenue, NE,
Warren, OH 44483. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12:00 noon.
