Luz América Serrano, lovingly known as "Lucy," lived a long and meaningful life. She loved music, dancing, and being the center of every celebration-her laughter filled every room she entered. Her home was always open, filled with comfort, food, and warmth. She took great pride in her Ecuadorian roots and shared her culture generously with everyone around her. Her strength, humor, and vibrant spirit leave behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories.
Luz was born in Celica, Ecuador, in 1927, to Aurelio and Fernanda Serrano. She was one of 13 siblings and worked as an obstetrical nurse in her home country. In 1967, she immigrated to the United States and settled in New York City, where she welcomed her fifth child.
She is survived by her loving children: María, Patricio, Elizabeth, Bolívar, and Alice.
She leaves behind a beautiful and growing family of 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
One of the proudest achievements of Lucy's life was becoming an investment property owner in New York City. She managed her own properties with dedication and skill-both as a passion and as a source of income-while serving as the sole provider for her five children. Her work ethic, independence, and determination inspired everyone who knew her.
In 2003, Luz relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida, to enjoy her retirement. She passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025 at 98 years, surrounded by her loving immediate family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Forest Hills Funeral Home in Palm City on November 17 and November 18.
