Lyle Eyl Obituary

Lyle William (Muggs) Eyl

Lyle was born in Valentine, NE on August 29, 1933 to Lyle Wray Eyl and Mary Jane Manifold. The young family lived and worked in the area for the next five years. During this time, Lyle Wray attended school in Omaha, NE, and this is where Lyle acquired the nickname "Muggs". A landlady called him Muggins and it stuck throughout his life.

Lyle Wray moved his family to Denver when Muggs was about five years old. They lived and worked near The Gates Rubber Co. They also added siblings, Barbara Lee and Denny to the family. Much later when Muggs was 18 years old, Ted was born.

After a while, the family bought ten acres in the old town of Sullivan and this is where Muggs went to elementary school. When it was time for high school, families had the choice of either Aurora or Englewood because Arapahoe County did not have a high school. Muggs' family chose Aurora. The school was quite small and Muggs was able to participate in many activities and sports, earning letters in football, track and wrestling, although he still had responsibilities and chores at home. It was also where he met Lois Frost also a country kid.

After high school, Lyle and six other boys from Aurora entered active duty with the U.S. Navy. He served two years and was stationed at the Great Lakes, Norman, Okla and Indio, CA. After his two year service, he came home and he and Lois were married, They moved to Ft. Collins, Co where he earned a degree in animal husbandry from Colorado A&M, as it was known then.. During this time, Lyle Wade was born and Lance Kevin was on the way.

He became the first manager of the Cherry Creek School District Farm. He also drove school bus and really enjoyed the job. However, the family needed more than the school could provide so Lyle took a job as a supervisor with Gates Rubber Co. He also started his landscaping/lawn-care business as well. A third son, Lester Morgan, was born and Muggs became sole proprietor of Eyl's Lawn Service, a business he ran until he retired in 2008. He loved the business and his customers. All the boys and many of their friends worked for "Big Daddy's Summer Fun Camp" over the years.

After retiring, he and Lois took to the open road in their 5th wheel RV. They traveled extensively in the western U.S., Canada and Alaska. They also went on a number of cruises - to Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean and Italy. He and Lois lived quietly over the next several years as his health declined. He loved family and friends, taking great pleasure in family gatherings and meals with friends and relatives.. He passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 92. after having lived a very full and satisfying life. He leaves behind his wife, three sons, six grandsons, two great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Denver Hospice, 8299E. Lowry Blvd., Denver, CO 80230.
